Dallas police officer, security guard assaulted with cars in separate incidents Thursday night

Staff Writer Ann Smajstrla reports: A Dallas police officer and a security guard were assaulted with vehicles Thursday night in separate incidents.

In the first incident, two Dallas police officers had closed both eastbound and westbound lanes of traffic after responding to an accident in the 4400 block of Swiss Avenue. At about 7:40 p.m. a woman attempted to run down one of the officers with her car after expressing frustration with the closed street, according to Dallas police reports.

The suspect attempted to pass a tow truck responded to the accident before getting out of her car and shouting obscenities at the officers. She returned to her vehicle and attempted to turn around. One of the officers tried to stop her, so the suspect struck the officer with her car. The woman refused to get out of her car and fled while displaying an obscene hand gesture, according to police reports.

In an unrelated incident, a man assaulted a security guard at about 11 p.m. at the Shadow Brook Apartments in the 11500 block of Ferguson Road in Far East Dallas.

The security guard approached the suspect for playing music too loudly in his vehicle. As the security guard stepped forward to record the vehicle’s license plate number, Jones pulled forward and turned his tires toward the guard.

The suspect, identified as 37-year-old David Alexander Jones, attempted to flee the apartment complex. The security guard drew his weapon and ordered Jones to stop, police said. Jones continued to drive with the security guard pursuing on foot. He parked the vehicle and attempted to walk away, and the security guard was able to detain him, according to police reports.

Dallas police arrested Jones and charged him with public intoxication and aggravated assault of a security officer. He remains in the Dallas County jail on $25,000 bond for the assault.
